Happy New Year!
What did you take away from 08? Let’s face it last year was bleak for many folks in regards to the economy. On the bright side what an amazing and historically important election the United States saw.
In technology we saw the launch of Apple’s iPhone 3G, revolutionizing data rates in some countries including mine. In my opinion it’s the best wireless device we’ve seen yet, but you already knew I’d say that.
It’s a very exciting time for gadget enthusiasts like myself, and developers. The Google Android phone and Apple’s iPhone have opened up a lot of possibilities for developers as an app like iFart has demonstrated. I’m very excited to see the apps that 2009 will bring us. If you’re a dreamer like me that refuses to jailbreak, we have live video streaming apps like Qik to look forward to in 09 (providing Apple approves it).
Gaming enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to in 09 with releases like Bioshock, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill for the iPhone.
Content and development is where it’s at now that we have these devices in our hands, and I hope to start producing video soon myself. I’m just getting used to the demands of it now, and more innovation in the field of creation tools is sure to be something to look forward to in the year to come.
Social Networking has become an integral part of my existence thanks to the advancements in mobility. Pre-iPhone days my digital life and sharing abilities were limited to the few hours I had to sit in front of my desktop. I guess you could say that that mobile devices really changed my life this year. Highlights of my social networking discoveries have been Twitter iPhone apps like Twinkle, Tweetie and TwitterFon as well as apps like Shovel that have now allowed me to Digg while I’m walking my dog!
Aside from the infamous Digg community I fell in love with Social Median in 08, a social networking news site which aggregates your networks and news into a stream and allows you to share / tweet stories directly to your Twitter network.
So things are in a strange exciting state, and overall I’m really enthused about the future. I just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the amazing last year you gave me. It’s been so great connecting with some of you, and I look forward to expanding all of our horizons together in the new year. Look for more blog posts, and I’ll be doing the same. In fact this is the place to tell me what you thought of last year or what you expect in the forthcoming one. I welcome your comments!
Ps- Say it with me Apple ” Copy and Paste in 09″

I know I adopted lots more tech in 08… more on the app side though. 2008 was full up web apps and content accessibility. I’ve never had so many ways to put out content (or access that of others) so easily. I can honestly say that all the APIs out there have completely simplified my web experience & allowed my workflow to improve dramatically (i.e. I spend less time avoiding work and looking for new content).
I’m thinking this year will be a crucible for much of the “new tech” that the last few years have spit out. Start-ups will flounder, but content providers (the good ones, at least) have a chance to flourish. During times like these businesses are smart to focus on core competencies & build up their audience. content creators need to do the same. We have ways of getting the content out there, now we have to make sure what we put out is good.
Lastly, the ubiquity of the new content access channels & means of communication have reached a tipping point and begun to influence the way the next generation is communicating with people. As corny as it sounds, we are watching human evolution (with respect to the way we relate to each other). This year should be a year where we seriously begin to study the emerging patterns now that we have all these ways of getting messages out to each other… idk, just a thought
