Mo Feeds Mo Problems?
If you’re looking for ways to consolidate all of your feeds into one tidy app, like I always am, you may want to take a look at the iPhone app Nambu.
Nambu imports and displays your Twitter, FriendFeed and Ping.fm feeds as well as the microblogs Identi.ca and Laconica , an open source API used by Leo Laporte to create his microblog Twit Army site. Using Nambu you can quickly move through your feeds by tapping the icons on the dock at the bottom of the apps home screen..
Like most Twitter apps Nambu provides you access to your private messages (star icon) as well as your Twitter feed (house icon). They’ve even thrown in an advance Twitter search on steroids which will gives you a numerous amount of filters to narrow your twitter search. The filters allow you to look for keywords or filter out words, as well as places, dates, Attitudes
, links. and hashtags. Unfortunately, I feel that they’ve left out a few important tools. You are currently unable to attach or take a photo when sending out a Tweet. It seems unusual that they would omit this tool. Also you’re unable to view a tweet’s tree like Tweetie, or even re-tweet. There is also limited access to information on profiles such as # of followers and previous pings, although double clicking on a profile pic will open the browser and bring you to their profile page at Twitter.com .
That being said I won’t be replacing my current Twitter apps with Nambu any time soon or until they add these features.
On the other hand I’m thrilled that they’ve integrated FriendFeed with Twitter. Nambu displays your FF’s feed similar to tweets allowing you to engage your FriendFeed network on the go.
Nambu shows you the origin of the post aggregated to FriendFeed like Twitter and displays as an icon on each individual post. I thought that feature was a nice addition.
Commenting on content is made easy just tap on the FF post you want to view and Nambu will allow you to comment, like it, or translate. Search is available as well in the FriendFeed screen although there is no
tricked out advanced search like is offered on the Twitter screen.
Along with the inability to attach photos to tweets, you’re unable to post photos to your ff feed.
Ping.fm tool further expands your reach to multiple networks with one app. Ping.fm can be used to update your status to an overwhelming amount of social networks.
Overall the app is a useful tool that gives you the ability to reach a large amount of feeds in one convenient package. The advanced search Twitter tool is a very cool addition to the vast amount of things things this little app can already do. Sharing pictures and media are a huge part of my digital life so unfortunately I won’t be using Nambu to post to my networks although I think its a fantastic way to comment on FF and update your status to a number of social networks using Ping.fm
Additionally I found the translate function very exciting and accurate. Nambu will translate your tweets and posts to English, and I’m assuming it would work the same for your specific language settings.
Integration of a language translator is something I hadn’t seen in a Twitter iPhone app. Kudos to the Nambu team for that little gem.
If you’re a developer and use the open source microblog Laconica, you can import your own microblog into the app. Nambu gives you the ability to enter your host name and account into the Laconica settings.
I’ll say it again, I’m very pleased to have the ability to keep
up with my FriendFeed network using my iPhone although I’ll be looking forward to an Nambu update with the necessary tools to post and share photos.

Excellent review.
Good that they use the open source API. =]
Is Nambu’s Twitter support broad enough to include in my iPhone Twitter App comparison chart?

When I was searching for an iPhone app able to integrate my identi.ca account, I found Nambu and it appealed to me due to all of its features. I even opened a Ping.fm account to be able to post simultaneously to identi.ca and Twitter from the Mac. Unfortunately the Ping.fm service on Nambu is not stable so that the app shut down and my post was lost. BTW other apps like Twitterrific or TwitterFon save a draft post, while Nambu even loses the draft when you close the app manually.
