Promo Codes Come To All App Stores

This week Apple announced a change to their limitations on app promo codes by opening them to all app stores. That’s right International users, no more switching back and forth between your pseudo-American-account to redeem a code — Apple says we’re finally worthy.
Since the launch of the app store, this has been a major annoyance for users living outside the US, specifically app-reviewing bloggers. It’s unclear why the promo codes were ever sealed off from the rest of the world but it was seriously off-putting.

Holding out for the newest version of the iPad? Latest rumours indicate that it won’t have a camera, it will have two. According to Reuters, Asian manufacturers claim the not-yet-seen iPad will be smaller than the current version, possibly sporting both a front-facing and a rear-facing camera. It’s possible the recent flood of tablets (like the Galaxy S) hitting the market have influenced Apple’s decision to hurry two camera’s into their hardware. Although it was pretty much expected that the new model arriving early 2011 would be equipped with at least one.
There’s no exact details on how much smaller the new iPad will be however as Reuters pointed out, Jobs squashed the idea of a 7″ iPad (Galaxy S) saying It’s “too small..” It’s being said that iPad sales will eat up a majority of the tablet market in 2011 but companies like HP, HTC and Samsung will continue to offer some healthy competition for Apple with their Android tablet-alternatives.

Remember those machines we played in arcades before all the pinball machines and Street Fighter games were turned into iOS apps? If you’ve felt the rush of banging the flippers and plungers on a real pinball machine, you know the experience just isn’t the same using the touch screen on the iPhone.
A new accessory called Pinball Magic aims to recreate the tactile arcade experience with a working mini pinball case that fits around the iPhone by connecting to the standard 30pin connector. This app-accessory designed by NewPotatoTech works in harmony with the PinBall Magic iPhone app and sports a rotating beacon light, animated LED light score board, ball launcher, flipper buttons, credit/select buttons and has folding table legs.

The game-play mimics the classic style board layouts and modes; multi-player (support up to 4 players), tilt detection, end of ball, replay bonuses and various multi-ball modes. Indeed a very cool gift/stocking stuffer for iPhone-Pinball enthusiasts.
This case supports the iPhone 4 or any iPhone or iPod touch running OS 3.0 or higher. Considering the price point of $39.99, I’m not sure if gamers would get the a lot of replay value out of the 1 game that works with this case however NewPotatoTech states that it will contain support for third party pinball apps that are on their way.

Today’s Apple Event.. Back to the Mac.
Here are the highlights folks:
Mac Store
We now have an app store for Mac, it looks very similar to the iPad store and it launches right from the dock on the Mac. Apple is offering devs the same 70/30 split deal and will be accepting applications from devs as of Nov 2010 — get coding. Macs running Snow Leopard will get a peek in 90 days from today. I think this is seriously exciting news. The update tool ( like in the iOS app store ) will make it a lot easier for users to ensure their collection of apps are all up to date.
FaceTime Comes to Mac!!
Mac users + iPhone 4 users can now FaceTime! I’ve already downloaded it for Mac, it works great. When you tilt your device (iPhone) the mac screen will adjust, centering you back up. This is awesome news.… Continue Reading
