On Saturday I participated in my first ever Zombie Walk in Toronto and as I’d expected the event was bloody rad. Toronto zombie enthusiasts came to Trinity Bellwoods Park in droves sporting highly impressive undead costumes, make-up, gnarled flesh and redonkulous amounts of blood, brains and severed limbs.

The Zombie Walk kicked off with a real Zombie Wedding, a romantic deadly union of the unholy founders of Zombie Walk Toronto, which began with pallbearers carrying the bride to the alter… in a coffin…of course.

It was a lot fun to lurch down the street with fellow zombies but honestly the amazing photo opps were the icing on the cake. It’s a must-attend event for photographers, amateur and pro alike. I’m not sure if it’s the same everywhere, however I can tell you first hand that Canadian zombies love mugging and posing for the camera.

It’s definitely not my style to write for parents.  Writing articles on children’s gadgets and ‘how-to-blog’ newbie posts isn’t something I usually do, but to my surprise, I have actually been enjoying the mentally agonizing process of breaking down tech for the non-so-tech savvy parent.

Tech Sense is the name of a new parent’s tech column I launched a few weeks ago. It’s a bit quirky, basic and possibly lame to the super-connected high-tech crowd, but if your elderly mother or technophobe sister needs a lesson on starting a blog, then send them over to GanzWorld’s Tech Sense. Feeling guilty and quickly losing street cred,  I managed to publish some articles on WordPress, Xtranormal and Blender.

The GanzWorld’s Parent Club site is a new hub for parents to read about parenting advice, tips, trends, family activities, crafts and technology.

On another note, I feel elated with the possibility of converting non-techies grandmothers to the dark side… or Facebook.

Promo Codes Come To All App Stores

This week Apple announced a change to their limitations on app promo codes by opening them to all app stores. That’s right International users, no more switching back and forth between your pseudo-American-account to redeem a code — Apple says we’re finally worthy.

Since the launch of the app store, this has been a major annoyance for users living outside the US, specifically app-reviewing bloggers. It’s unclear why the promo codes were ever sealed off from the rest of the world but it was seriously off-putting.

Holding out for the newest version of the iPad? Latest rumours indicate that it won’t have a camera, it will have two. According to Reuters, Asian manufacturers claim the not-yet-seen iPad will be smaller than the current version, possibly sporting both a front-facing and a rear-facing camera. It’s possible the recent flood of tablets (like the Galaxy S) hitting the market have influenced Apple’s decision to hurry two camera’s into their hardware. Although it was pretty much expected that the new model arriving early 2011 would be equipped with at least one.

There’s no exact details on how much smaller the new iPad will be however as Reuters pointed out, Jobs squashed the idea of a 7″ iPad (Galaxy S) saying It’s “too small..” It’s being said that iPad sales will eat up a majority of the tablet market in 2011 but companies like HP, HTC and Samsung will continue to offer some healthy competition for Apple with their Android tablet-alternatives.

Don’t ask me how I came upon this site, there was just clearly some sort of wonderful serendipity going on this morning when I landed on it.  These cases are equally as strange as they are awesome. I would have been pleased with a painted bacon case.. but life-like bacon & eggs ?? Sushi?? Come on.. this is too cool. Wonder if they make Android-bacon-cases?

I think I know at least one person who will grab one.

Hard-core Geddy,Neil & Alex fans can now get their Rush-on with the Rush Time Machine mobile app.

Just in time for the new tour, one of the geekiest looking (and sounding) rock bands in history (I say that with love) have created a pretty cool cross-platform mobile app for fans.

Living in Canada and loving rock I naturally grew up listening to Rush so I was just a tad geeked to hear they’ve put out an app…

Rush’s new app includes over 30 Rush songs (over $40 worth of music ), info on the band, rare audio clips, lots of Rush wall papers, album art, an interactive game and info on the gadget’s they use while on tour.

The app also sports a GPS feature to find tickets and directions to the new tour “Time Machine”. Once you’ve arrived at the concert, the apps will additionally show fans points of interest like restaurants and hotels nearby.

And, although Geddy Lee looks like he could be a serious coder, he didn’t create the app– the band did however assist in its creation so it’s an official app.

It’s available on both the iPad and Android — cause droid geeks luv Rush too.
