We just got a look at some exclusive photos of Sony’s new Google HDTV (Sony NSX-46GT1). The folks at hdguru.com had a chance to quickly snap some photos during a demo yesterday at the Best Buy holiday preview press event.

Sony's Google HDTV

So here’s the skinny…
Google announced earlier this year that they’d be partnering with Sony, Logitech and Intel to develop an internet-enabled media solution that would work with their Market place –apps .

Google TV will add a level of intelligence to the TV experience like we’ve never seen. Searching for shows will take on a whole new thing; by topic, actor or year, really whatever you could think of. The content will be seamlessly linked (maybe not at first) to related data on the web, likely with specific / direct links to sites like Wikipedia, IMBD, YouTube, etc.

One of the most exciting aspects, to me anyways, is the opportunity to use apps and services to engage my friends on a new platform. If apps like GetGlue were integrated with our media experiences… well… that would just be sweet.

Social Entertainment
Services like GetGlue have partnered with mammoth networks and offer rewards to users for checking-in to specific movies and TV shows. The users in turn receive unique recommendations and the benefit of increasing their social graph. If a TV could check-in automatically when a user views a show then the user could possibly earn new friendships, badges, rewards –and without much effort.

According to HD Guru, the Sony-demo (likely not the only model available) sported a 46” screen and connected to the web through a USB WiFi dongle. HD Guru reported that users surf the web using the Chrome Browser, they also mentioned, they saw a standalone GoogleTV prototype that simultaneously played video while surfing the web in some sort of Picture in Picture fashion.

Sony’s take on Google TV will be controlled by a QWERTY Sony remote or by using Android or an iPhone, according to the recent post on HD Guru. The way we discover and control our TV is going to seriously evolve. Think voice control. People who grew up searching for a show utilizing the redonkulous remote-search-method that can be found on my Bell PVR should be wildly excited at the thought.

Sony’s new NSX-46GT1 plugs into the cable/satellite receiver, the demo version HD Guru saw was using Dish Network. I can’t say I know for sure but I’m thinking it will work in other markets, I really can’t see why it wouldn’t although it wouldn’t be the first time I here in Canada got screwed on a new device.

If you already have an HDTV no need to buy another, Logitech is set to come out with a standalone Google box but there’s no date on its release.
